In the new year we went to Littlehampton for lunch at the wonderful East Beach Café, designed by Thomas Heatherwick. The first time we went there in the summer, we were so surprised by it that we skived off work/work/school to go again the next day and have the crazy golf course to ourselves. I must thank my husband for these great pictures.
The sun always shines in Littlehampton and it did this time too. Since our summer visit another wonderful thing has happened to it. The Longest Bench in the World! .
It’s designed by Studio Weave. Check out their website, they have done some lovely stuff. If I were an architect I would like to be them. The bench is lovely, a playful snake of slats made from (and I quote from Studio Weave’s website) ” thousands of hardwood bars reclaimed from sources including old seaside groynes (including Littlehampton’s!) and rescued from landfill”. Some of them are painted in a variety of juicy colours. You can buy a slat and dedicate it to someone. The dedication is engraved onto the slat. Slats cost £60 and for that people have up to 68 characters for the message of their choice. Anyone interested in buying one can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01903 737844. It was lovely reading them. People have real affection the this place.
